You pretty much know what to expect from a Transporter film: fisticuffs, flash cars and attractive women. But what you also usually expect is Jason Statham gravel-growling and scowling his way through the running time. Things have changed for this reboot, with Ill Manors’ Ed Skrein stepping into his sharp suit as Frank Martin. The first trailer for The Transporter Refueled is now online via Apple.
Mostly it’s business as usual for Frank: there is a package (in this case, two bewigged women) to be delivered somewhere for shady types and a lot of dangerous folk who would rather he didn’t make it. Cue car chases, beat downs, quick cuts and extended sequences where villains make speeches and then Frank fights everyone around. But there are also the odd nods to the fact that time moves on and things have changed a little.
Skrein doesn’t quite seem to have the same unknown quantity that makes Statham work in the role, although we’ll wait and see the whole film before making any solid judgments. Brick Mansions man Camille Delamarre is directing this one, working from a script that producer Luc Besson handed to Bill Collage and Adam Cooper to write. The film – also known as The Transporter Legacy – will be out here on June 19.
