When Sony announced that it was making an animated take on Spider-Man, there were concerns about the dilution of the character's impact given the resurgence of the live-action franchise. But the decision to focus on Miles Morales (voiced here by Shameik Moore), brought some excitement, and from the looks of the first teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, this could be something very special indeed.

While Morales is still the central figure of the footage, there is a clear message that he won't be the only one taking on the role of friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Quite how that all factors in is being smartly left to the imagination for now, but we do know he'll be facing off against some villains, including one given voice by Liev Schreiber.

But particularly impressive here is the eye-catching animation style, which jumps between ideas and ends up as something that feels very different. It's all being put together by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey, working from the script by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. With Mahershala Ali and Brian Tyree Henry also lending their vocal tones to the movie, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse will be in UK cinemas in December next year.
