Last year's Groundhog Day-indebted horror comedy Happy Death Day was a fun, twisty trip that played with time loops and the conventions of your average slasher film. It was successful, so here comes the sequel, known as Happy Death Day 2U, with the first trailer online.
Writer/director Christopher Landon is back behind the camera for this new Blumhouse film, which appears to be taking something of a Back To The Future Part II approach to the story, dipping in and out of the original. We once again follow college student Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe), who thought she had figured a time loop that was triggered when she was murdered on her birthday.
Now, though, it might all be happening again – with a few key changes, including others she knows being trapped and hunted alongside her – and despite feeling supremely pissed off that she has to deal with it, she throws herself into the task (literally, in some cases).
Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine and Phi Vu are all back and the movie is taking aim at Valentine's weekend audiences with a 15 February release.
