Demonstrating how quickly Jason Blum's Blumhouse operation moves, here's a trailer for The Gift, barely two months after most of the cast came aboard. Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall star alongside Joel Edgerton, who's also the writer, director and producer.
Bateman and Hall play a married couple who decide to breathe some life into their stale relationship with a fresh start in a new town. But their move takes them into the orbit of Edgerton's Gordo, an apparent friend of Bateman's from the past whose arrival means unwelcome disruption. The film's working title was Weirdo...
It's a change of tone for the more usually comedic Bateman, and a continuation of Edgerton's recent form wearing multiple hats. He was a writer and producer on Felony too, and last year's excellent The Rover was also based on an Edgerton screenplay. The Gift marks his feature debut behind the camera after a couple of shorts.
Bateman and Hall will be contending with the schoolfriend from hell on July 31 in the States. We don't have a release date in the UK so far, but it shouldn't be too far behind.
