She's not quite back in contemporary times, but for her latest drama, Keira Knightley has at least jumped a little bit further forward. She's starring in The Aftermath alongside Alexander Skarsgård and Jason Clarke, and the first trailer is online.
Testament Of Youth's James Kent is also moving forward in time, swapping World War I for the post-World War II period, working from a script adapted by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse from Rhidian Brook's novel.
The Aftermath finds Knightley as Rachael Morgan, who arrives in the ruins of Hamburg in the bitter winter of 1946 to be reunited with her husband Lewis (Clarke), a British colonel charged with rebuilding the shattered city. But as they set off for their new home, Rachael is stunned to discover that Lewis has made an unexpected decision: They will be sharing the grand house with its previous owners, a German widower (Skarsgård) and his troubled daughter. In this charged atmosphere, enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal.
With Kate Phillips, Tom Bell and Flora Thiemann also in the cast, The Aftermath is out on 1 March.
