Ari Aster's Hereditary might have been foolishly overlooked by the likes of the Oscars, but it certainly struck a terrifying chord with many who watched it. And we're eagerly awaiting his next delivery of unsettling cinematic scares. Midsommar is due this year, and US distributor A24 has launched a tiny, Twitter-based tease for the film, which you can find lurking here.
The story, or what we know of it thus far, finds Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor as a couple who travel to Sweden to visit their friend's rural hometown for a famous mid-summer festival. It starts as an idyllic retreat, but devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition spurred by a pagan cult. The Wicker Man's Edward Woodward would surely empathize.
Will Poulter, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia and Archie Madekwe are all part of the cast for the movie, which will creep into Stateside cinemas on 9 August before making its way here on 16 August. With luck, this heralds the first trailer arriving before too long.
