Cheating death is a staple of sci-fi stories, but it always seems to come with a cost. In the case of Altered Carbon, that's both extortionate in terms of hard cash and some dodgy corporate behaviour. Check out the teaser for the new Netflix series.
Avatar veteran Laeta Kalogridis headed this one up, adapting Richard Morgan's award-scooping 2002 cyberpunk novel. Altered Carbon takes place in a future where the human mind can now be digitized, downloaded into a "cortical stack" and placed into new bodies, known as sleeves.
The series follows Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman), who is brought back to life centuries later to investigate the attempted murder of Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), the wealthiest man on Earth. As the investigation progresses, Kovacs comes to learn that his past isn’t nearly as buried as he thought...
Netflix will put the entire first season out on 2 February.
