The funding for Keanu Reeves' directorial debut Man Of Tai Chi came through from Village Roadshow and Universal at the end of 2011. While there's been little in the way of updates since then, here now are the first few images and a poster to instil in us the happy notion that, before long, we'll once again get to see Keanu knowing kung fu. Woah.
At the top there, we get a glimpse behind the scenes at Keanu in his directing scarf, while below you'll find a fiery, slightly Mortal Kombat-y teaser poster, a bit of training for Tiger Chen (who's playing the film's protagonist), and a shot of Keanu, looking like an action figure in more ways than one.
Aside from the obvious, Man of Tai Chi has further Matrix pedigree in Chen, who was part of the trilogy's stunt team, and legendary fight choreographer Yuen Woo Ping.
Reeves is playing the villain this time, and he and Chen are joined by Simon Yam (the** Ip Man** films), Iko Uwais (The Raid) and Karen Mok (So Close). Back when first announced, Keanu was promising 18 setpiece fights, taking up roughly 40 minutes of the film's screen time. "I want a good story, good plot... but let's get some good kung fu going!" he enthused.
The film shot in Beijing, in Mandarin and English, and is currently in post-production with no release date yet set. We might still get to see it before Reeves and Carl Rinsch's troubled 47 Ronin though, which is currently slated for the very end of this year.
