Jeff Nichols has entered a prolific patch of his career. With Midnight Special having just hit, he also has historical drama Loving showing to good notices at Cannes. Now the first poster, featuring leads Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton, has arrived online.
Nichols’ film is inspired by 2011 HBO documentary The Loving Story, in which Nancy Buirski chronicles the story of Richard (Edgerton) and Mildred (Negga) Loving, an interracial couple, who married in 1958 in defiance of Virginia’s Racial Integrity Act of 1924. They were arrested and exiled from the state, but that kicked off a landmark civil rights debate that led to a Supreme Court case on the matter that invalidated laws banning interracial marriage.
As per usual, Nichols wrote the script, and has Bill Camp, Marton Csokas, Jon Bass and – because it really wouldn't be a Jeff Nichols film without him – Michael Shannon filling out the cast. Loving will be released in the US on November 4 via Focus, but there has been no announcement on the UK date yet.
