We’re used to Christian Bale dressing as a winged creature when he’s out for justice, but director Scott Cooper has him looking for a missing brother (Casey Affleck) with just guts and determination in Out Of The Furnace. The first pictures from the film are online over at USA Today and can be seen below.
Furnace finds Bale as Russell Baze, a steelworker who must confront criminals such as Woody Harrelson while on his mission to find his wayward sibling. But he’s not your typical action movie star. "Russell is not of that personality, nor does he wish to be," Bale tells the paper’s site. "But he finds himself having to confront these people in order to do the right thing. He's only got his own fortitude and will power, nothing else."
According to Cooper, Bale went to his usual lengths to research the role, talking to local steelworkers and even having one of them record their voice so he could get the accent right. He also worked in the local furnace. "It's long hours, unhealthy conditions and intense heat," says Bale. "It's dangerous work. The guys had recently lost a friend who had died on the job. But there's a great bond. And they have a love for it, despite the hardships."

With Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Zoe Saldana and Sam Shepard also among the cast, Out Of The Furnace will be in our cinemas on November 29.
