We’re a few months away from the return of the shambling, moaning, blood-splattered types of The Walking Dead (and that’s just the main cast). But the team behind the comic adaptation have not been shy about releasing images of the new faces we’ll see in season three. Fan favourite Michonne got her close up last month, and now it’s the turn of The Governor, played by David Morrissey.
TV Guide nabbed the first look at the man, a controversial, brutal type who is the leader of Woodbury, a small survivor settlement in a prison that our heroes are about to stumble into. Suffice to say, he won’t make life much easier for them, and in particular becomes a problem for Andrew Lincoln’s Rick.
Talking with TV Guide, comic creator and series executive producer Robert Kirkman took pains to assure us all that he won’t be toned down for the telly. "The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic. I think that he's definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of. He's definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down."
Still, his look is definitely different from the comics, where he appears more like Danny Trejo than the man who last cropped up in Centurion. Take a look at the pic in the gallery below and let us know your thoughts…
