After meeting him all too briefly at the end of The Time Of The Doctor, and getting one quick look at him still wearing Matt Smith’s old cast-offs, the BBC has now published the first official picture of Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor in costume.
[#DoctorWho](https://twitter.com/search?q=%23DoctorWho&src=hash) EXCLUSIVE! Here it is! The new Doctor’s ‘costume’ revealed! It’s a classy, sleek look, which still manages to be quirky (is that a cardigan layer we spy?) while being less busy than some of the recent outfits. There's a touch of Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor, with all the Hammer Horror overtones that suggests. And a Doctor in Doc Martens? We approve.
Capaldi, a lifelong fan of the series, is filming now for his proper debut in the autumn. And as for the flourish… Very Doctor-like, even if it also appears he’s trying a magic trick.
“He's woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord,” Capaldi tells the Beeb.
“New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes,” says Who overlord Steven Moffat. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!”
Expectations are high for Capaldi’s run on the show, with hopes that we might see a return to a grumpier, more severe Doctor, albeit one who can find the fun when he really needs to. With the first two episodes of the new series directed by Ben Wheatley, we’re definitely ready to see what the new TARDIS occupant has to offer. Provided he can remember how to fly it…
