We might have to wait until January 2011 to see The Green Hornet** strike our cinemas, but Sony is kicking off the promotional campaign now, which is hopefully a good sign that the studio has some faith in the movie, despite earlier rumours of disagreements and disappointments. And to start, the first two images (at least those not snapped by the paparazzi) are now online.
While they’re not really that exciting, the pics show Seth Rogen as Britt Reid and Jay Chou as swift-fisted sidekick Kato, with Rogen in particular benefitting from the slimming workout regime he threw himself into to prepare for the film.
The plot finds Reid, heir to the most respected media conglomerate in LA as a lazy, shiftless playboy whose life changes overnight when his father dies. Faced with new responsibilities and inspired by one of the company’s more inventive employees, Kato, Reid becomes inspired to do something a little impactful for once. The Green Hornet is born.
But as they use their skills (Kato in martial arts and engineering, Reid in having the money to make his designs come to life), their newfound partnership will be tested when they take on the crime boss of the city, Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz).
Michel Gondry was behind the camera for this one, and we’re promised the trailer later tonight/early tomorrow morning. Rest assured we’ll be on the case.
