The cameras have only recently begun cranking on the latest Young Adult adaptation to go on the hunt for Twilight/Hunger Games-level success, but the first image from Divergent is already online via EW.

Adapted from Veronica Roth’s bestselling series, Divergent finds Shailene Woodley (that’s her dealing with a knife-flavoured problem above) as Beatrice “Tris” Prior, a young woman growing up in a dystopian future Chicago where society has taken a strange turn.

In Tris’ world, people are divided up in five separate factions, each meant to uphold a particular human virtue: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). Every year on Choosing Day, 16 year-olds are given an aptitude test, which tells them which faction they belong in (no matter which one they were born into) and are allowed to transfer if they desire.

Yet when Tris takes the test, she discovers that she’s divergent, and is eligible for three factions. She’s warned to keep the knowledge a secret for a very good reason...

Neil Burger is busy making the movie, which also features Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Ray Stevenson, Jai Courtney, Theo James, Maggie Q, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort. It’s set to arrive over here on March 21 next year.
