First Look At Cameron Diaz In Annie

Those accustomed to alluring images of Cameron Diaz may wish to avert their gazes from this story in favour of happier memories: The Mask, say, or that Charlie's Angels Swiss milkmaid outfit. Those of a less shallow persuasion, however, might enjoy this first look at Diaz in costume as Annie's Agatha Hannigan. Perhaps you even prefer her in this stern, drawn, Aunt Spiker guise. We don't know your life.

I want you to meet someone. Her name is Ms.Hannigan. She ain't nice and she ain't pretty. Note the "H Bomb" necklace. We don't remember that on Carol Burnett.

Hannigan is, of course, the matron of the orphanage that plays home to little Annie. She likes a drink but hates children. We're thinking Diaz' turn in Bad Teacher should stand her in some sort of stead here, although that didn't prepare her for having to sing...

Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts Of The Southern Wild) is playing Annie, with Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks (the Daddy Warbucks role), Rose Byrne as the sympathetic Grace Farrell, and further support from Bobby Cannavale and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Will Gluck is the director, and also had a hand in the screenplay, which had previously been worked on by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.

Will Smith and Jay-Z are the drivers of the film (Smith originally envisioned it as a starring gig for his daughter Willow), and it's shooting right now, for a release next Christmas.
