George Clooney is back behind the camera again for his latest directorial outing, this time eschewing starring. Instead, he has the likes of Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan and Christopher Lloyd front and centre for The Tender Bar. Check out a first look image.
Adapted by The Departed's William Monahan from the memoir of the same name by JR Moehringer, The Tender Bar tells the story of JR (Sheridan), a fatherless lad growing up in the glow of a bar where the bartender, his Uncle Charlie (Affleck), is the sharpest and most colorful of an assortment of quirky and demonstrative father figures. As the boy’s determined mother (Lily Rabe) struggles to provide her son with opportunities denied to her – and leave the dilapidated home of her outrageous if begrudgingly supportive father (Lloyd) – JR begins to gamely, if not always gracefully, pursue his romantic and professional dreams, with one foot persistently placed in Uncle Charlie’s bar.
Amazon Studios is clearly looking at this one as an awards contender, and has scheduled a 17 December limited Stateside release, widening out on 22 December, and followed by a global launch on Prime Video on 7 January next year.
