With shooting wrapped and Quentin Tarantino busy knocking his latest, vengeful Western The Hateful Eight into shape in post-production, the first official pictures from the film have arrived courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Take a look at a selection of images in the gallery below, including some character portraits of a few of the titular eight.

QT’s new film is set roughly a decade after the American Civil War and finds an eclectic group of law keepers, outlaws, mercenaries, bounty hunters and fugitives holed up in a stagecoach waypoint when a massive snowstorm hits the area. Soon, the two men transporting a female prisoner across the country start to wonder if they’ll actually make it out alive...

The main cast includes a blend of Tarantino old hands and those new to his work, with Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Michael Madsen and Channing Tatum on the roster alongside James Parks and Zoe Bell.

“You have to ask Quentin, but I do think it’s a bit of an intentional homage to Reservoir Dogs,” Madsen tells EW about the set-up, which features characters that all have secrets to hide. “It’s one of those pictures where nobody really knows who anyone really is. It’s kind of a masquerade party.” For more info and pics, head to EW’s pages on the film here and here.

The Hateful Eight should ride into US cinemas later this year, but there’s no word yet on a UK date.
