It has been infamous for its troubled development and the chaotic start to its shoot, but Natalie Portman and the Jane Got A Gun team will be hoping that 2015 is the year that the Western thriller puts its troubles behind it and stands on its own merits. The first imagery for the film is now online.

The film’s story finds Natalie Portman as the titular homesteader, shocked to see her estranged outlaw hubby (Noah Emmerich) stagger home full of bullets after being double-crossed by his gang.

With the criminals (led by Ewan McGregor) on their way to finish the job, Jane decides to reach out to a sharp-shootin’ old flame (Joel Edgerton) for assistance in defending her home.

This one has faced seemingly endless problems before and even during the shoot. Michael Fassbender left the project early on and director Lynne Ramsay departed on the first day of filming after clashing with the producers. Gavin O’Connor stepped in to call the shots, but watched as Jude Law decided he no longer wanted to play the villain because he’d signed on to work with Ramsay, and the producers have traded lawsuits.

Now, after the release date moved several times, Jane is finally set to get her gun this September in the States, though there’s no sign of a UK release date yet.
