The Los Angeles Times has scored the first look at Beowulf, Robert Zemeckis' take on the "oldest story in the English language" (so it says here) which follows a be-panted warrior who must slay the monster Grendell. See the articlehere and click on the thumbnails below to enlarge the images.
The film has been realised with the same motion-capture technique used for Polar Express, but where that film and it's dead-eyed children who worshipped a sinister Santa freaked our shit out (seriously, that film was worlds of wrong), this appears to get the photo-real aspect right. The film features Ray Winstone (unrecognisable at the rippling hero), Anthony Hopkins (totally recognisable as King Hrothgar), Brendan Gleeson, John Malkovich and Angelina Jolie.
The crowds at Comic-Con will be getting a look at Beowulf tonight in 3D, so check back tomorrow for our reaction.
