They've just snapped up the US distribution rights at the European Film Market, so to celebrate, Clarius Films have released the first image from the Stephen King adaptation **Cell. John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson and Isabelle Fuhrman take centre stage, with the world in the background showing some signs of the chaos unfolding.
Cell marks a Stephen King reunion for Cusack and Jackson, following 2007's 1408 (they only actually shared a single scene, but boy it's a good one; check it out below). This time they're faced with the world falling into chaos when a mysterious, phone-borne signal turns a wide swathe of the population into zombie-like hunters with a herd mentality.
Cusack plays graphic artist Clay Riddell, who escapes from Boston when the signal starts to drive people around him violently insane. Jackson is Tom McCourt, a soldier-turned-engineer who helps Riddell flee the city, while Fuhrman is Alice Maxwell, who tags along on their desperate quest for survival.
Director Tod Williams (Paranormal Activity 2) has been working from a script by King himself and Last House On The Left writer Adam Alleca. Clarius are planning a wide theatrical release for Cell later this year in the States, but nobody has picked it up for the UK quite yet.
