Fully back to film work following his accident on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Dylan O'Brien is now busy in the role of Mitch Rapp, the character from Vince Flynn's novels. Here he is in the first look image of the character from American Assassin.
Stephen Schiff's script adapts Flynn's 2010 tome, which spins the clock back to Rapp's early days with the CIA, when he's recruited after his girlfriend is killed in a terrorist strike. Michael Keaton is playing Stan Hurley, a secretive Cold War veteran who takes Rapp under his wing. The pair is assigned by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of what at first seem to be random attacks on military and civilian targets, but the signs point to a mysterious operative who is looking to stoke up new wars in the Middle East. Taylor Kitsch will be the rogue agent who is causing all the trouble.
For an action movie, the first still looks more like a Gap catalogue ad with extra weaponry, but we're sure there will be more of O'Brien running around soon enough. Michael Cuesta is directing the movie now, with the film itself awaiting awaiting a release date.
