Game Of Thrones – Night King

Last year, it emerged that there were several shows in development that were vying to become the direct successor shows to HBO and Sky Atlantic's mega-successful Game Of Thrones. A number of writers have been at work on different concepts, and now one spearheaded by Kingsman co-writer Jane Goldman will go at least to pilot stage.

Naturally, most of the details are still under wraps, but we do know that Goldman and Thrones novelist George RR Martin came up with the basic story, which Goldman turned into a script. Should the show reach series stage, she'll be overseeing it. As for the setting? It's reportedly going to tackle the dark ancient history of Westeros, chronicling the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. The official description offers a simple line: "Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend — it's not the story we think we know."

The next step will be to assemble a director and cast, and there's still no indication when any new series would hit screens. Thrones' eighth and final season is set for next year.
