Following a collection of blipvert-style "glitches", the first full trailer for Rupert Sanders' Ghost In The Shell reimagining has just arrived. Scarlett Johansson stars as the not-always-noticeably-clad Major, and you can check out the whole, spanking new promo below, introduced by ScarJo herself.
As you can see, visually it's right on the money, although many of the plot details are still under wraps. What seems clear so far is that, while many of the setpieces are recognisable from the original manga and anime, the film's story may turn out to be less familiar. We'll have more for you on that in due course...
What remains the same is that, as per Masamune Shirow's source, Johansson’s Major is a special ops cyborg, head of an elite task force known as Section 9. The team, working for Hanka Robotics, is in charge of stopping dangerous criminals and extremists. Their prime target this time out is Kuze (Michael Pitt), a terrorist dedicated to wiping out all of Hanka’s cyber technology. Pilou Asbæk is Batou, the second best fighter in the section and The Major's trusted lieutenant, with Juliette Binoche, Takeshi Kitano, and Kaori Momoi also appearing.
Ghost In The Shell is out on 31 March next year.
