brightcove.createExperiences();With Disney Feature Animation on something of a roll after Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph, the Mouse House’s ‘toon team will be hoping to keep the momentum of success going with Frozen, another long-in-the-works animated adventure that turns the Snow Queen fairytale into a musical story of two sisters. We’ve already seen some concept art, but now USA Today has premiered the first proper look at the characters and Disney has released the first trailer.
**Frozen, directed by Chris Buck and Ralph's co-writer Jennifer Lee, **takes place in a kingdom tapped in eternal winter thanks to a spell from Elsa, the Snow Queen (Idina Menzel). Fearless optimist Anna (Kristen Bell) decides to undertake a quest to find Elsa (who also happens to be her sister) and end the chilly conditions.
To do so, she’ll need the help of tough guy mountain man Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), his reindeer sidekick Sven and wacky snowman Olaf (Josh Gad). "Anna is the sibling who doesn't normally get that much attention and is used to kind of just spazzing out on her own," Bell tells the newspaper’s site. "But she's forced into a position where her sister needs her, and she has to step up to the plate." For more images from the movie, head to USA Today’s site.
This trailer seems very much in the vein of the Ice Age Scrat teasers rather than offering much of a clue to the film's plot, and carefully avoids giving any mention of the female lead or villain. Perhaps, as with Tangled, Disney are trying to hide those fairytale roots to attract young boys; let's hope the result is at least as fun as that film.
Frozen is set to arrive on December 6.
