While the world is now audibly groaning under the sheer weight of vampire movies being churned out, Neil Jordan's new contribution to the genre, Byzantium, is worth paying attention to. He is, after all, the man behind Interview With The Vampire, which unleashed Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt's gnashers on cinemagoers and thus had sex appeal in spades.
Jordan follows up the quirky kettle of fish / sea-related possible-mythology that was **Ondine **with a more contemporary vampire flick than his Anna Rice penned flick. The look of its new poster is, refreshingly, much closer to Gaspar Noe's neon Enter The Void designs than all of those endless, shadowy **Underworld **efforts.
It's based on a National Theatre production by Moira Buffini and sees Clara (Gemma Arterton) playing a vampire who has to keep herself and her daughter (Saoirse Ronan) safe from all manner of nastiness.
While it's largely set in the modern day, it does dart back in time too. Whether that will involve the awesome spectacle of Alice Creed and **Hanna **battling Van Helsing, we can only speculate. We'll find out when **Byzantium **is released later in 2012.
