While the vast majority of the stories about him have either featured his very public meltdowns, his shouty phone messages or him getting offered then denied a cameo in The Hangover 2, the real victim of Mel Gibson’s run of controversy has been his most recent starring role, The Beaver. Summit Entertainment, however, is nevertheless pushing ahead with promotion for the Jodie Foster-directed film, launching a teaser poster at the American Film Market, which you can see below courtesy of Coming Soon.

The Beaver stars Gibson as Walter Black, a man who just can’t seem to deal with the pressure in his life. Severely depressed, Walter seeks treatment and is offered a rather unorthodox idea: he can use a beaver hand puppet to express his feelings and shield himself from the worst aspects of life. At least, that’s the theory…

Foster’s black comedy is based on Kyle Killen’s script, which was one of the most beloved unproduced screenplays in Hollywood a couple of years ago.

Now it’s looking like the film, which also features Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin and Winter’s Bone star Jennifer Lawrence, might have to sit and wait until the atmosphere around its star and the movie itself is a little less muddy. Still, we’ve got to admit we want to see the movie – and the poster does make us chuckle…
