First Astroboy Teaser Now Online

The teaser trailer for Summit Entertainment's Astro Boy, the animated film adapted from Osamu Tezuka’s classic manga, has just gone online over at Moviefone.

The film, directed by Flushed Away’s David Bowers, is a variation on the Pinocchio story, telling the tale of a robotic boy with incredible powers, created by a brilliant scientist in the image of his dead son.

Initially rejected by the scientist, Astro Boy goes on a journey of acceptance, before returning to the futuristic Metro City to do battle with evil forces and bond with his ‘father’.

Sounds like it could be a belter – and the teaser trailer, featuring suitably manga-esque character designs and some great shots of Astro Boy soaring through the skies and then burrowing through a mountain, his eyes glowing ghostly blue, is brief, but does more than enough to whet the appetite.

Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage, Bill Nighy, Matt Lucas and Kristen Bell are just some of the great actors lending their voices to the movie. Bowers’ Flushed Away will forever be known as the film that prompted DreamWorks to pull the plug on their deal with Aardman, but we loved it: it was fresh, visually stimulating, very funny and packed with incidental detail. Let’s hope Astro Boy is more of the same from a very talented British director.
