Fire & Ice Concept Art Online

Robert Rodriguez is generally a solid draw at Comic-Con, and this year’s event saw him present a packed panel loaded with news on his future projects. Among them was his plan to open a museum dedicated to pulp artist Frank Frazetta, and, for those who don’t have the wherewithal to travel to Austin, Texas to see it, an idea for a series of films based on Frazetta’s iconic artwork. Now some of the concept art for the first movie – Fire and Ice – is online and can be gawped at below.

The pics were knocked up by the writer/director and his team at Quick Draw Entertainment and give you some idea of what to expect from the movie. Particularly as Rodriguez is planning to go all Sin City on the artwork and story, which was originally brought to the screen in animated form back in 1983… “I want it to look like you just stepped into one of his paintings, where you get to see his world, and how he saw people, anatomy, and composition and colour,” Rodriguez tells Entertainment Weekly. “It will feel like it’s real, but not real. It’ll be his reality. He saw things differently. He painted from his imagination. He didn’t take a photograph and just paint it.”

So aside from busty warrior ladies, muscled men and big beasties, what can we expect in terms of the plot? Well, EW got their hands on the synopsis too: “From his stronghold in Ice Peak, the evil Nekron sends forth a wave of deadly glaciers, forcing humanity to retreat to Fire Keep, a kingdom ruled by a generous king. When King Jarol’s daughter Teegra is kidnapped, young warrior Larn teams with the mysterious and legendary Dark Wolf, to rescue the princess and the realm from Nekron’s evil sorcery.” Nekron. You just know he’s a baddie, don’t you? It would have been so different if his parents (or whatever hell demon birthed him) had called him Ned.

Despite juggling several projects, Rodriguez aims to start casting and production on the film next year. For more, head to EW.
