Due at the start of next year, the surprise new mini-season of The X-Files has already teased us with multiple promo images and trailers. Now here's the final set of posters, reworking familiar images from those iconic opening credits: the elongated hand; the flying saucer that's also familiar from Mulder's office decor; and the eyeball that's now been given a black-oil X. Scroll down for the bigger versions.

The miniseries picks up with David Duchovny's Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson's Dana Scully in very different places in their lives, but still committed to finding the truth behind the big conspiracies that have plagued them. But there’s also time to investigate other mysteries, too... And yes, there are definitely going to be appearances by old favourites such as William B. Davis' Cigarette Smoking Man, despite his seeming death by giant missile in the series finale back in 2002. And the likes of Mitch Pileggi, Annabeth Gish, Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, Bruce Harwood and Nicholas Lea are all back in some fashion.

We’re promised a higher ratio of standalone episodes to mythology arc, which is good news, since there are only six that will make up this limited new run once again crafted by creator Chris Carter and some of the writers who made up the original behind-the-scenes team. Joel McHale, Lauren Ambrose, Robbie Amell and Rhys Darby are among the new co-stars, and The X-Files is back, at least on US screens, on January 24.
