Another trailer for Dracula flick Renfield is here_,_ giving us a much closer look at Nicolas Cage’s vampire-slash-terrible-boss and Nicholas Hoult’s titular lackey – though the first thing you’ll likely notice is that there’s an awful lot of bursting going on. There’s a bursting priest, Dracula bursts into bats, someone else bursts into flames, and some poor unfortunate guy gets two-footed by Hoult’s Renfield and bursts into a truly spectacular wall of blood. Oh, and someone else gets their arms ripped off. In the mood for that today? Have a watch of the brand new trailer below:
This is our second look at The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay’s take on the undead neck-nibbler, and it really leans into the fact it’s going to be a splenetic symphony of guts and gore. At first glance, Cage’s Dracula looks very much like Bela Lugosi’s classic interpretation of the character – check those eyebrows – but he’s got a bit of a saucy streak too, coyly giggling at the idea of being known as the Lord of Death. And he wants fresh innocent souls to devour. Cheeky!
Over the strains of Radiohead’s self-loathing masterpiece ‘Creep’, we see Renfield spending a bit more time with Awkwafina’s police officer Rebecca, and mapping his transformation from an admiring underling of the Dark Lord, to put-upon servant, to a mutinous insider intent on bringing his boss down. There isn’t long to wait until we find out whether he succeeds – Renfield is in UK cinemas from 14 April.
