If The Monkey got you back in the mood for Rube Goldberg-style gore-strewn death scenes, buckle up: Final Destination is back. Nearly 15 years after the series seemingly wrapped with 2011’s Final Destination 5 (which ironically followed 2009’s not-actually-final The Final Destination), the series is back with sixth entry Final Destination Bloodlines, tracing a new set of convoluted everyday death-traps back to a historic glass-bottomed disco disaster that was averted long ago – setting Death on a rampage to reclaim the souls that should have been his. Check out the trailer:
The Final Destination series has long settled into its forte for morte mayhem, and this trailer shows Bloodlines having plenty of fun with the format. Take that barbecue sequence, where shards of broken glass, a hidden rake under a trampoline, and a rampaging lawnmower all threaten to unleash hell. Plus, there are hints that that doomed dancefloor sequence may be the key to the entire Final Destination franchise – are we about to see all six entries tied together? While the cast here is largely unknown, there is one notable face here: the late, great Tony Todd, returning as death expert William Bludworth, who’s long appeared in the saga. And since Todd died in November last year, this marks one of his final appearances.
Horror-hounds can get a long-awaited return to Final Destination when Bloodlines comes to UK cinemas on 14 May. Maybe avoid barbecues before then.
