The Nicolas Cage-starring 3D car wreck movie Drive Angry may be all about gear-grinding action, but it just upped its horror credentials too, with the news from Bloody Disgusting that Patrick Lussier (who was behind last year's My Bloody Valentine) has cast Amber "Mandy Lane" Heard.
Heard is fast becoming something of a scream queen, what with roles in Zombieland, The Stepfather, and the upcoming John Carpenter return The Ward. No details of who she's playing here, but we know the plot centres on a protracted chase, with Cage on the trail of the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. Maybe Heard's is just a cameo as the daughter? Frankly, it sounds like this film is going to move so quickly that practically everyone will be a cameo, barring Cage himself.
But if that's the case, we hope there's a bit of extended screentime for the also-just-cast William Fichtner, who's been providing awesome support for the last two decades in quality projects from** Strange Days** to Black Hawk Down to The Dark Knight, not to mention three seasons of Prison Break as FBI Agent Alexander Malone.
Lussier has co-written the screenplay with his MBV cohort Todd Farmer, and shooting starts in April. Will this be Cage's atonement for Gone in 60 Seconds? Fingers crossed.
