Given the success of last year’s rom com Crazy, Stupid, Love, it’s not surprising to see that Warner Bros. is aiming to keep writing-directing team Glenn Ficarra (left) and John Requa around to pump out more potential hit films. And it worked: the duo has now made a deal to direct their latest script, Focus.
The film spins a riff on a concept we’ve seen filmed a few times before, as a veteran con man gets involved with a newbie grifter. Trouble is, they fall for each other and enter a tricky minefield of romance where they both lie and cheat for a living. It doesn’t sound like the most perfect basis for stable relationship and, predictably, it goes sour. But then they end up meeting again…
It’s early days for the script’s development at the studio, but according to Deadline, the pair wants to recruit two of Crazy’s leads, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, to play the couple in Focus. Given the actors’ busy schedule, that might take a while to work out – and that assumes they’ll even be interested in the script. Still, given their great on-screen chemistry in that film, let's keep our fingers crossed!
