Will Ferrell and his producing partner Adam McKay have been trying to get King Dork up and running since 2006. But, according to the Hollywood Reporter{ =nofollow}, they now have a new studio - Sony - and may have found a director in Seth Gordon.

Based on a teen novel by Frank Portman, King Dork involves school misfit Tom Henderson, the mysterious death of his father, and the life-changing discovery of a copy of Catcher in the Rye. It's a comedy. A dark one, we're guessing.

Gordon's recent CV includes the brilliant documentary The King of Kong and the underwhelming Four Christmases. But if FC serves as a slightly misfiring prototype for a successful comedy that has edgy discomfort as one of its constituent parts, it'll be all to the good.
