Harvey and Bob Weinstein, head honchos at American production company Miramax, are to receive British Film Institute Fellowships for their outstanding contribution to cinema, the highest accolade the BFI can award. The brains behind such huge releases as Shakespeare in Love, Pulp Fiction and Iris, and known for backing small-budget, 'independent' movies, the Weinstein brothers will join such film luminaries as Orson Welles, Akira Kurosawa and Martin Scorsese in the roster of 56 BFI Fellows. The Weinsteins will also be joined in the illustrious list by veteran cinematographer, Jack Cardiff, whose work includes The African Queen and A Matter of Life and Death, when they are awarded with the honour at a glamorous bash to celebrate the 50th anniversary The National Film Theatre on 20 October.
