The British Film Institute has announced that veteran director Robert Altman will be presented with the its prestigious Fellowship award. The award will be presented at the National Film Theatre on 24 January, when Altman will give an interview about his life and works. Receiving the BFI's 52nd Fellowship, Altman will join previous recipients including Orson Welles, Martin Scorsese and Dame Maggie Smith. The director of more than 70 films including titles such as The Player, Short Cuts and M_A_S*H, Altman has been three times Oscar-nominated. BFI chair Joan Bakewell said of the decision:
