In 2015, there was talk that Natalie Portman would be playing US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (who has a fun cult following as "The Notorious RBG") in biopic On The Basis Of Sex. That didn't come to pass, but the though the project went quiet for a couple of years, it's back on track with Mimi Leder directing and Rogue One's Felicity Jones in the lead.

Ginsburg is a compelling subject for a biopic, a woman who has spent her career championing women’s rights and smashed the glass ceiling more than once. She co-founded the first law journal on the subject of gender equality, became the first woman professor tenured at Columbia university. In 1993, Bill Clinton nominated her to the Supreme Court, making her the first female Jewish Justice.

Daniel Stiepleman wrote the script for the film, which tracks Ginsburg’s career and has the backing of Focus Features, which worked with Jones on The Theory Of Everything and A Monster Calls. Leder will start the cameras rolling this September in Montreal.

Jones was most recently attached to star in a new cinematic take on Swan Lake, though that one is still developing.
