The Cannes Film Festival is in full swing for the year and there are many movies out hawking their rights to potential buyers. Which means a flood of stories about casting or other talent being hired. One such film, animated adventure Dragon Rider, has nabbed Felicity Jones, Patrick Stewart, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Freddie Highmore, Meera Syal, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Nonso Anozie to star.
Though visions of this one suffering in comparison to How To Train Your Dragon dance through our heads at the prospect, Constantin Film is pushing on regardless. The story follows Firedrake, a young silver dragon; Sorrel, a mountain spirit; and Ben, an orphaned boy. The unlikely band searches in the Himalayas for the Rim of Heaven, which can offer sanctuary for Firedrake’s kin, whose valley is made uninhabitable by a dam. Damn. We hate it when that happens.
Gnomeo & Juliet's Johnny Smith adapted the film from Cornelia Funke's bestseller and Tomer Eshed is on board to direct, with a release schedule targeted for autumn next year.
