Given the political and moral turmoil surrounding the appointment of the latest judge on America's Supreme Court, it feels somehow relaxing to look back at the earlier days of its most iconic current justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Even, as the latest trailer for On The Basis Of Sex proves, those days were filled with sexist mindsets.
Felicity Jones is back on real-life story duty here, playing Ginsburg during one of the most formative, combative and chaotic times of her life. Ginsburg teamed up with husband Marty (Armie Hammer) to bring the first landmark gender discrimination case before the Supreme Court, standing up to years of stony authority and backwards thinking, while those around them worried that the case would set the women's movement back a decade.
Mimi Leder directs, with a script by Daniel Stiepleman, who happens to be Ginsburg's nephew. The likes of Justin Theroux, Kathy Bates and Sam Waterston fill out the cast for the film, which will be out on 25 December in the States and arrives on 4 January next year in Britain.
