The first teaser trailer for Dwayne Johnson’s new revenge thriller Faster has arrived online and you can see it below.
Faster finds Johnson as a man called Driver, who has just spent 10 years in the slammer following a botched bank heist that also ended up with his beloved brother bleeding to death on the unforgiving concrete floor. Now he’s been released Driver is on a mission to track down the four men he holds responsible for his brother’s death. With a bloody big gun in his hand and vengeance on his mind, he won’t stop until all the names on his list have been crossed off.
But his actions spark attention from his enemies in prison, not to mention those who would rather not see him finish the job. Killer (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), an eccentric, egocentric young assassin is soon on his trail, looking to match skills against Driver’s own violent talents. And there’s also Cop (Billy Bob Thornton), a veteran policeman days away from retirement (aren’t they always?) who decides to try to stop the bloodshed. Hmm, those names are a bit on the nose, aren't they? Imagine if this starts a trend for calling charactes by their function - we could see rom-coms starring Love Interest, Mr Wrong and Neurotic Girl or thrillers with characters called Red Herring and Traitor.
The cast and crew have talked this one up as a return to French Connection-style ‘70s thrillers, and this first batch of footage certainly seems to indicate that they’re sticking to that path.
We’ll find out whether it works next February. Meanwhile, check out the teaser and let us know your thoughts.
