Natalie Portman’s Jane might have gotten a gun. But she’s lost him just as quickly, the careless woman. Yes, Michael Fassbender is officially out of Western drama Jane Got A Gun. But never fear! Joel Edgerton has stepped into the breach, and Jude Law is also signing on.

It’s something of a musical chairs situation for the film, which Lynne Ramsey will direct. See, Portman is starring as the titular Jane, whose outlaw husband returns home laden with lead after getting double crossed by his gang. When the criminals – now led by recent Empire web chat guest Law – turn up to finish the job of shooting her hubby dead, Jane reaches out to a former lover for help defending the homestead.

Fassbender was to have played the ex-swain with a sharpshooter’s aim, but thanks to shifting schedules on Jane, which is now set to start filming next month, he has to drop out to work on **X-Men: Days Of Future Past **in Montreal with Bryan Singer.

So, in a quick switch, Edgerton, who had been playing the gang leader, will now be the heroic flame and Law will be the baddie. He’ll report to New Mexico in April.

Law can currently be seen on screen in Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects, while Fassbender will next show up in Twelve Years A Slave and The Counselor. Edgerton, meanwhile, has Disney’s The Odd Life Of Timothy Green due to arrive here on April 5, and Portman will be back on screens in Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups and Marvel sequel Thor: The Dark World.
