Ever since 1994’s Dumb & Dumber hit it big at the box office and launched the film careers of Peter and Bobby Farrelly, there have been hints that the siblings wanted to make a sequel. But though New Line tried to force the issue by pumping out ill-advised prequel Dumb & Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, nothing else has happened. Now, though, the Farrellys are looking to revisit the idea.
The plan is for Sex Drive co-writers Sean Anders and John Morris to get to work on a script once they finish up Adam Sandler comedy I Hate You Dad. Any new sequel would naturally seek to reunite Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, the loveable lunkheads who have hearts of gold and brains of mush.
Though Carrey has always shied away from sequels (largely with good reason given Son Of The Mask and Evan Almighty), he has been dropping hints about the idea, particularly while doing the press rounds for** Mr Popper’s Penguins**.
According to Deadline, the Farrellys are looking to get to work on the new Dumb pic once they’re done with The Three Stooges (due out here on May 4 and previewed in the new issue of Empire). Will we see another proper Dumb & Dumber? And do we want one? Or does it sound like what you get when you successfully mate a bulldog with a Shih Tzu?
