Given that Warner Bros. has previously announced a trilogy to be made from Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, and the fact that J.K. Rowling has been at work on the next script, it's not surprising to learn that the sequel to Newt Scamander's (Eddie Redmayne) adventures is on the way. Now we have an official date, with the sequel scheduled for November 2018.
And the studio has confirmed to Variety that Beasts director David Yates will continue his association with the ever-expanding wizarding world, returning to handle the new movie.
Little is known about the plot so far, though Warners' statement includes mention that the story “moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.”
Nothing was said about casting, but Redmayne should be back as Newt alongside the likes of Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and Katherine Waterston. If the studio keeps to its day-and-date scheduling, expect the sequel on November 18, 2018. The first Fantastic Beasts lands here on November 18 this year.
