The countdown is officially on! In 365 days, the sequel to Warner Bros'. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them will arrive in cinemas. And we now know its title – Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald.
After popping up at the very end of the first film, it looks like Johnny Depp’s Gellert Grindelwald (Grindeppwald?) will indeed be front and centre in the next tale from J.K. Rowling. Sorry, Colin Farrell. For those who require a little refreshing, Grindelwald was the big, pre-Voldemort bad of Dumbledore’s generation, some of whose antics we glimpsed at the start of Fantastic Beasts.
According to Warner Bros., “in the new film Grindelwald has escaped custody and will be seen gathering followers to his nefarious cause. This next film will also see Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) enlisted by Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) to try and stop him”.
A new cast photo has also been unveiled, with Depp and Law flanking the returning cast and newcomers Claudia Kim (Maledictus), Zoë Kravitz (Leta Lestrange), and Callum Turner (Newt’s older brother Theseus). The Daily Show’s Jessica Williams will also pop up in an as-yet-unknown role. Looking at those robes, we’re putting a fiver on another Oscar for costume designer Colleen Atwood.
David Yates’ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald will magic its way into cinemas on 16 November, 2018.
