Independence-Day-Resurgence

We've already had a few trailers for Independence Day: Resurgence, so a fair chunk of this one will be familiar to anyone who has been awaiting the aliens' return. But this new extended look at the film promises lots more of Roland Emmerich's trademark destructophilia.

It's 20 years since the Battle of 1996 and the Earth has settled into relative peace and unity. Using technology salvaged from the last time that nasty extra-terrestrials came a-knocking at our door, many of the planet's problems are on the way to being solved and we've been building up our defences in case of a return engagement, led by David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum).

But not everyone is doing well in the years since the first attack: former President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) still bears the psychic scars from his interaction with the aliens and Dr. Brakish Okun (Brent Spiner) remains in a coma. Plus Steven Hiller, once brought to life by Will Smith, has been killed in the intervening years during a test piloting accident.

So when the invaders return in force with even bigger ships than last time, a new generation must rise up and fight for the future of humanity. And whatever is left of the world's city's when the fighting is over...

With Maika Monroe, Joey King, Liam Hemsworth, Sela Ward and William Fichtner part of the cast, Independence Day: Resurgence is out in the UK one month from today. The countdown is nearing the end...
