As it slowly begins to build out its new version of a connected classic monster cinematic universe, Universal has someone new taking on writing chores for one of the stalwart creatures. Dave Callaham, who wrote the first Expendables film and the story for 2014's Godzilla, is now on board The Wolf Man.

With Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan overseeing the universe as its main producers, the effort to make a new Wolf Man movie began with Prisoners' Aaron Guzikowski writing the first draft of the film, whose plot is a mystery beyond the expected basics of a man being attacked by a werewolf and turning into one himself. There were rumours that Dwayne Johnson might be interested in the role, but that has yet to develop into anything concrete.

Long before that one hits, we will see The Mummy, which finds Tom Cruise encountering Sofia Boutella's ancient, vengeful creature. That movie is due on 9 June next year. Callaham's credits also include new Amazon action comedy series Jean-Claude Van Johnson, which has recently been ordered to series by the company.
