The Exorcist joins Lethal Weapon next season as the latest films being turned into television series. Given the green light by FOX in America, the series is a modern reboot inspired by the 1971 novel by William Peter Blatty, which, of course, was the subject of William Friedkin's 1973 adptation starring Linda Blair. The show is being described as a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller. The focus is on two very different priests tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession.

Directing the pilot is Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Rupert Wyatt from a script by executive producer Jeremy Slater. The cast includes Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels, Geena Davis, Brianne Howey, Hannah Kasulka, Kurt Egyiawan.

Evil certainly is taking a foothold on television, The Exorcist joining the recently renewed Lucifer and Damien (based on The Omen, which has not been renewed yet).
