Having played at festivals last year, stylishly animated Chinese fable Big Fish And Begonia is headed our way later this month. And to mark the occasion, we have the opening scene for your viewing pleasure.
Inspired by Chinese legends, the movie takes us into a world within our own, hidden deep beneath the oceans. It's here we meet Chun, a young woman from a race of "others" who control the tides and seasons, in a realm where human souls become giant fish.
On her 16th birthday, Chun is allowed to travel to the human world, where she is rescued from a dangerous vortex by a boy at the cost of his own life. Chun is so moved by the boy's kindness and courage that she decides to give him life again. But to do this, she must protect the boy's soul, a tiny fish, and nurture it to grow. Through adventure and sacrifice, love grows, yet now she must release him back to the sea, back to life in the human world...
Directed by Lian Xuan and Zhang Chun, Big Fish And Begonia is due for limited release on 18 April.
