Director Pablo Larraín has already been enjoying plenty of success with the Oscar-nominated Jackie, and his current hit streak is set to continue with Neruda, which arrives in April. We have an exclusive look at the UK poster for you.
Another story drawn from history, the film is set in 1948 as the Cold War spreads to Chile. In congress, Senator (and poet) Pablo Neruda (Luis Gnecco) accuses the government of betraying the Communist Party – resulting in his swift impeachment by President González Videla (Alfredo Castro). Soon, police Prefect Oscar Peluchonneau (Gael García Bernal) is assigned to arrest the poet.
When Neruda and his wife, painter Delia del Carril (Mercedes Morán), they are forced into hiding and he finds inspiration from his dramatic new life as a fugitive. During this period, Neruda writes his epic collection of poems, “Canto General”, even as, across Europe in Europe, the legend of the poet hounded by the policeman grows, and artists led by Pablo Picasso clamor for Neruda’s freedom...
With award nominations and plenty of praise already surrounding it, Neruda will arrive in the UK on 7 April.
