A new issue of Empire arrives in all good and evil newsagents from today, and with it comes all manner of exclusives – including a visit to the Californian set of CHiPS, the big-screen revival of the small-screen cop show. Take a look at our exclusive image below.

CHiPS (short for California Highway Patrol, of course) was a crime action drama with comedic elements, running from 1977 to 1983, and this new adaptation from writer-director star Dax Shepard looks to amplify both the comedic and action elements.

“I figured there’s a cool version of this, a Lethal Weapon/Bad Boys version,” Shepard explains of the film, which sees him play Officer Jon Baker opposite Officer Frank ‘Ponch’ Poncherello (Michael Peña) as they patrol the sun-soaked highways of the Sunshine State, and get themselves into scrapes – most notably against a former cop-turned-villain Vic Brown (Vincent D’Onofrio).
